• Dear NSA

Simon Phipps IMed me last night with DearNSA – I wonder if someone’s reinvented the USENET Oracle in a new format? DearNSA Q: Boxers or briefs? A: That is NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS. Sheesh. Q: I gotta know, are they natural or implants? A: We cannot reveal information that might jeopardize our information gathering methodologies.

  • Reasonable Expectation?

BBC News A judge decided Mrs Miller was entitled to a substantial settlement because she married with “reasonable expectation” of a future wealthy lifestyle. Wow. I wonder if employees can now sue their employers for not matching expectations, too?

  • w00t – more ego stroking!

Joe Little I attended the Social Media Forum yesterday and had a real insight into a weird quirk of how human beings operate in the business world. First of all Alex Muffett from Sun Microsystems did a really innovative presentation on his activities to promote blogs in the organisation. He had a cracking first 20

  • The Best Use of (ahem) Powerpoint …

Blog Conference … I should also mention to best use of powerpoint I have seen in a while. Alec Muffet from Sun Microsystems went into slide overload to deliver a fun, clever, and humorous look at the issue of business blogging. w00t! Although technically it was a PDF, courtesy of Keynote, rather than Powerpoint. I

  • Travels with my Trike

Two weeks ago on my trike, I accidentally interrupted a woodland layby lesbian love-tryst, whilst commuting home from work. Cars nuzzling, bumper-to bumper; drivers in the foremost, likewise. Very restrained. Very Home Counties. Everyone looks-up to smile and wave when the tricycle goes past. Last week on my trike, I found a discharged smoke grenade

  • Help Me Spec A PC

I’m asking my gamer-friends at work and will be perusing Ebuyer, Quiet-PC et al, but I thought I’d formally post this out here… I am looking to upgrade my somewhat shabby PentiumIII PC at home. It’s always been a bit flakey, and now is woefully underpowered. The role of the new machine will be as

  • Lets make an Earth Sandwich …

If you’ve not heard of Ze Frank’s attempt to make an earth sandwich you really ought to check it out; it’s actually coming along quite rapidly and there’s a gallery of work to-date. There are included pictures of cat-earth sandwiches, too although possibly open, and with the cat upside-down thereby presumably impacting flavour…

  • Google GMail POP Access, Sucks?

Currently – about four times a day, perhaps more – my access to GMail via Mail.app on MacOS is interrupted by a popup/requester saying that “authentication failed”, and asking me to re-enter my password for access to my GMail POP account. I hit “Cancel” and the “Reconnect” (small lightning-bolt) button, and it invariably succeeds on

  • Just back from Blogs and Social Media…

I’m just back from the Blogs and Social Media Forum which was stonkingly good fun. Some quick bulletpoints before I go to bed, so I can remember to write about them properly tomorrow: Chris Barger, IBM’s chief blogger, is a deeply cool dude; I regret missing his session, but apparently recordings/podasts will soon be up.

I just like the natural Banksyness of this… …and this is a closeup of what Jim called my dada photo… …and finally, one from the London Underground this morning. If you see someone vandalising a tube train, they will send a helicopter. Yes, really. We’re sure. They swear.
