• Old Media on a Plane

For those who imminently predict the death of mainstream media – mentioning no names – this review of the Snakes on a Plane phenomenon makes a point with which some might sympathise: Still, don’t think for a moment that audiences have hijacked the ship of Big Media. The permutations of creative online infringement — fan

  • Who’s afraid of the big bad bomb?

Yet more evidence that the American public are discovering sarcasm; if you are old enough to remember nuclear terror done properly – of the sirens, megatonnage-per-county and “how much of England might actually be left habitable?” sort – then you’ll probably find this about as funny as I did: ReallyReady: FAS Analysis of Ready.gov The

  • Here is today’s breaking news…

Yesterday a possible terrorist plot was thwarted. The country’s airports were in chaos. American media has provided wild speculation that we are re-reporting because we can’t think of anything else to talk about, since there is no new information today. Nobody has thought to go sift government press releases for information they are trying to

  • New, British Bulletin Board Libel Case

MumsNet So here we are: one of Britain’s most wealthy and successful childcare experts demanding the closure of a community website run by mothers to enable parents to swap support, advice and the odd joke. In truth I’m

Amazing how you gan get into more pain as you heal; the ribs arestitching into bigger plates and the latter are moving tectonically, and so I’ve been swearing a lot of late. • Things You Didn’t Know About Diclofenac

Wikipedia It has been reported that veterinary diclofenac use in India has caused a crash of the vulture population,[1] with “major ecological consequences” and a sub-cultural Zoroastrian Parsi “sky burial” crisis.[2] Diclofenac causes kidney failure in vultures that eat treated domestic animals. …so I should avoid being eaten by vultures this week.

A short catalogue entry, for the sake of getting it down in ASCII: Fractured tibia, just below the plate of the knee joint. It was screwed together in France, and the screws will come out in a couple of years. Apparently it may give me arthritis in later life, but that might happen anyway, and
