How do I find a local taxi company that takes wheelchairs?
Just ring round, yellow pages, or is there a list?
I’d ring round. Seems I always have the bad luck of turning up at a station and ending up being stuck with the huge people carrier that also takes wheelchairs; annoying for me (I’m only one person!) and unfortunate if someone in a wheelchair needs a lift. What I’m saying is, they seem to be available. Knowing this country, there’s probably some law forcing all taxi companies to have a certain quota of wheelchair-accessible vehicles.

Local to the BMI, then the hospital should have a list. Local to Chez Alec.. Yellow Pages is one option. Getting in touch with your local branch of Help the Aged (yes, really!) is another. The local Disabled associations also have lists. These folks tend to know the tried and trusted firms, who won’t just send “One man and his micra” in the folorn hope that they can fold you into it.
Ask Isamu (works in GMP03 in sustaining) he uses such a taxi to get to work each day.
