  • London is the most expensive place in the world to eat out

    2007/09/12 08:23:35 BST

Eek! http://www.independent.co.uk/living/food_and_drink/news/article2953471.ece From nose-bleed mortgages to wallet-bashing lattes, Londoners are used to paying some of the highest prices on the planet for their basic needs. Now it seems they are being charged more than anyone else for a meal out while suffering some of the worst-rated food and service among the world’s leading cities. The

  • What Do Women Want? Less Pink, More Tech

    2007/09/11 07:46:57 BST

The opening paragraphs of this article annoy me: Bring on the tech gear, but don’t make it girly: That’s what women want, according to a survey released today. Just 9 percent of the fair sex want products that “look feminine,” like a pink Playstation or Hello Kitty keyboards. The remaining 91 percent seek something sleek

  • Facebook suffering User Outages ?

    2007/09/08 05:02:06 BST

I’ve been getting the attached facebook login screen for the past 14-ish hours: Hey, your account is temporarily unavailable due to site maintenance. It should be available again within a few hours. We apologize for the inconvenience. Facebook is obviously “up” for most people, but I am wondering if this is just me or whether

  • The Goal of Security is to stop people “pulling stunts”?

    2007/09/07 18:44:47 BST

Quote: DAVID OWENS, NSW ASSISTANT POLICE COMMISSIONER: I’m not embarrassed at all. What I am is I’m very angry that such a stunt like this would be pulled. We have 21 world leaders here. Whilst I enjoy, like everyone else, a good laugh, this isn’t funny. Context: The APEC conference is a big deal in

  • My Idea I Submitted To Twitter: A Reply Button

    2007/09/05 20:08:04 BST

I sent the Twitter-folk: A Really Simple Improvement To Your User Interface I had an idea. I’d like a small “reply” button next to every tweet, that pre-populates my “What am I doing” text-input box with “<at-symbol>USERNAME<space-or-colon>” – ie: the name of the person who wrote whatever tweet I clicked on. This will save on

Nepal Airlines said the animals were slaughtered in front of the plane – a Boeing 757 – at Kathmandu airport. The offering was made to Akash Bhairab, the Hindu god of

Microsoft FUD Watch: OOXML Edition In all my years working as a journalist, I’ve never seen any technology company spin information the way Microsoft did today. The press release on OOXML ratification is a blueprint for spinning semantics, and the stringing together of truths and half-truths to seemingly make the outcome of one event something
