Cat Update

Well: Buster’s blood test results are back from the vet, and the short version is: the blood tests are clean and all well within normal bounds, in fact prettymuch straight down the middle.

This sounds like good news, but it’s not, terrribly. It means that his weight loss remains unexplained, and leaves-open the possibilities of stealth cancers and other nasties being the cause of the problem.

Some specific bullet points; I don’t understand the metrics, but if I wrote them down correctly his kidneys are “7” which is smack in the middle of the range; thyroid “29” and creatine (sp?) “104” which are again OK and therefore exclude what was the primary candidate to explain his symptoms. His white blood cells are slightly below the median, but still within what would be considered normal. No viruses or bugs, One kidney is slightly crumpled, but the blood tests say urea was low, so they’re still working fine.

This is so weird: he’s not so much hyperactive as permanently awake, and he eats like a horse, but nothing sticks to his waist; Suzi, on the other hand, is not fat but is very very solid from all the extra food that is lying around.

The vet’s recommendation is to regiment their eating, and deny them food except at scheduled feeding times – this means I can watch them eat and ensure that Buster really is getting his share of food. I feel this is a bit pointless, but will try it anyway. I shall also get a set of fishermans’ scales to weigh him more often.

Then, another checkup in early september.

Sigh.
