Art prankster sprays Israeli wallSecretive “guerrilla” artist Banksy has decorated Israel’s controversial West Bank barrier with satirical images of life on the other side. The nine paintings were created on the Palestinian side of the barrier.
One depicts a hole in the wall with an idyllic beach, while another shows a mountain landscape on the other side.
Banksy’s spokeswoman Jo Brooks said: “The Israeli security forces did shoot in the air threateningly and there were quite a few guns pointed at him.”
It’s a good article with some pictures; I wonder though that AroFish did a fairly comprehensive going-over of Baghdad and Palestine last year, with extensive commentary [1] [2] [3] upon the work and his experience in doing it.
Some of the themes are rather familiar but then they are also obvious; so I wonder if Banksy might start seeing charges of unoriginality being bandied about. Chris commented that “[AroFish seems] more politicial, Banksy seems more absurdist“, which is a fair opinion, although both seem to be trying to make the same statement in this case…
I have two AroFishes in my photo collection; this seems apt:
…and some sunday morning before summer is gone, I really must get up early and take the dirtbike into London on an urban art-hunting expedition.
