Via Reddit: “what can I do about the online safety act” | …trying to provide some constructive advice

The short answer is: contact your MP and complain. https://www.writetothem.com/

Don’t tell them that you are angry at it, tell them WHY you are angry at it and WHAT impact it has on your life and how you expect it to pan out.

Tell them that you don’t want to be giving your information to dozens if not scores of different age verification providers when what you really need is for the vendors and platforms to accept a standard digital proof of age card/credential. You should only need to do this face scanning or document provision ONCE not dozens of times. App stores should have age ratings by default, which should make age assurance unnecessary.Make sure that they are aware that VPNs are not the problem – that is likely to be the big talking point in the autumn, and it’s not like the 17x uptick in VPN adoption is being done by kids because there are not that many kids in Britain. The VPNs are being used by mature adults who don’t need protections of the online safety act and who are just walking around all the bullshit.

Careful what you wish for. The EU idea that requires registration of specific devices with both a megacorp and the state, the tracking f those devices and potentially the restriction of access to those devices may not be what you really want.

    1. Absolutely. There should also be a free market in providers of these credentials.
