British Pharmacopoeia

This is one of those books which every Briton knows exists – being the BP that is suffixed to the name of prettymuch every generic medical compound sold in the UK…

…but the funny thing is that I never looked it up before, and bizzarely [www.amazon.co.uk] doesn’t list it; the American site does: [www.amazon.com]

1500 bucks?!? Blimey. That makes the Millennium Star Atlas look cheap!

This was all brought about by someone’s observation that Amazon allows you to look for the author named Not Available.

The results (link above) are rather surreal.

For an interested layman, the trick with such books is to wait a few years then try to snap up an old edition in a remaindered book sale. That’s how I got the Law Society’s list of expert witnesses, Generally Accepted Accounting Procedures, Public Acts And Measures 1998 (including the Data Protection Act, which is why I picked that year), the US Federal guide to procedures for handling and disposing of hazardous chemicals, and so on, for less than £2 each.

this blog is becoming even more educational – thank you Clive, though I will try and refrain from purchasing else I will need to move house to accommodate more bookshelves! Those sort of books don’t tend to be that thin I suspect!!
