Using a Modem – Return to the 90s

This is like a return to the 1990s; I am using a modem to access my backup ISP connection because last night some muppet from BT (British Telecom) unplugged my DSL at the exchange, and plugged me in to someone / somewhere else.

So I for various reasons I had cold biryani for breakfast, and am now using a modem to check e-mail, prior to getting coffee…

It’s the 1993 all over again.

    ps:

    a) it may take 24 hours to fix

    b) DSL service is not covered by the same outage policy that covers phone contracts, so in theory i have to pay BT more for the calls i need to make to work around the cockup they created.

This is good for you. It is a reminder of how the other half lives (all the time).

Aren’t you glad you went with an ISP that provides a backup dial connection ? 🙂 The next challenge is to use, assuming you went for that option, the other IP addresses in your allocation over that modem.

You could make the 1993 experience complete by listening to They Might Be Giants’ “Birdhouse In Your Soul”.
