Once Linux’s Biggest Enemy: Darl McBride Dies and Nobody Notices | FOSS Force

This was a wild time to be alive, especially in comparison to where we now are:

The man who, as president and CEO of SCO, attempted to sue Linux out of existence died a month and a half ago with little notice by the Linux and open source communities.

I vaguely remember this lawsuit; probably due to being a Mac user I guess, most of my attention was elsewhere. But I was sorry for Novell. They got pummeled by Microsoft over and over, then got pummeled again.

To me this speaks to the benefits of the simple and permissive BSD (etcetera) license, contrary to the license on the code TiVo decided to use. Much to their chagrin.
