Tom is not really helping, but it’s funny
A lot of people are missing some of the crucial details in the Bloomberg story, so I thought I’d try to clarify some of the technical aspects which might not come out in the high-level report. ?? The chip was “encrypted on the motherboard”. This is a highly technical way of saying that it was…

In Myanmar, China is helping the illegitamite military government to install a great firewall like on the mainland. How can I get around this? # some disturbing comments in this thread
In Myanmar China is helping the illegitamite military government to install a great firewall like on the mainland. How can I get around this? by intechsupport Quote> Not just the Great Firewall level firewall! Look at this cybersecurity law draft. It’s entirely in Burmese but I’ll translate it for you. In page 21, it says…

Anybody who wants to know why there are such vitriolic and abusive threads on social media sometimes, simply needs to watch this video
Or this: Or this: People, too, can behave differently and disproportionately when artificially separated.

If governments and academics are “concerned” about big platforms, they will be terrified of small, individual, distributed ones which will come in their wake.
I’m almost inclined to channel @doctorow and write a short piece of fiction whereby aggressive regulation leads to a viable decentralized web populated by old school tools like irc (with better ui), only difference is everyone is using the tools including the racists. Data in transit is data at rest, rules UK Court of Appeal – I can kinda see their point, but also this highlights the challenges (unintended consequences?) of artificial distinctions in data protection legislation #SnoopersCharter

WANTED: public review of the v2.0 draft of “A Year of DNS over HTTPS over Tor” ; includes absolute and comparative performance measurements, Will be submitted for publication in ~ 1 week.
I’m particularly interested in knowing bugs, grammar issues, unanswered and other questions that might be raised by the report. Highlighting stuff that is excessively verbose or might benefit from more clarity, is also welcome. This has been written in a 3-day haze of caffeine and I need fresh eyeballs. One aspect of post-#Brexit Britain that had eluded me is that we’d see Nigel Farage hawking financial advice on YouTube against a bad greenscreen of London and from the safety of his local gastropub
I won’t link to it, there’s no point. The commenters on his videos are worse.

Wow: the request latency for DNS over HTTPS over Tor does not appear to be as bad as you would expect. In fact, far from it. #DoHoT
So: in mid-January I posted the following challenge to some technically capable friends on Facebook: I’m looking for a small set of geeks who can help me with a DNS metrics experiment. Must haves: understanding of shell scripts & DNS availability of “dig” tool fast Linux or MacOS host solid local network without significant droppage…

A Resolution To The Bucatini Shortage in America # interesting: if you produce food in the USA and fail to adulterate it with enough vitamins, you end up trashing it as economically unsaleable
Totally worth reading, even if the CEO keeps returning to a couple of pre-prepared sound bites. https://www.grubstreet.com/2021/02/de-cecco-bucatini-shortage-interview.html
