When I had the pleasure of visiting Chez Gravier recently, I discovered Nicole’s 1922-edition Larousse Universel, which I then monopolised as a conversation piece for the rest of the trip.

The images are fantastic, and not entirely politically correct by modern standards:

…but I’m clearly not the only person to appreciate them in context.
