I’m just watching The Hairy Bikers’ Cookbook on BBC2.
It’s a crossover food program, somewhere inbetween Jamie Oliver, Two Fat Ladies, The Long Way Round, Nick Sanders and every cheap gearhead program that the Granada Men&Motors ever made.
Really. I mean it. In fact they’re doing Portugal and just visiting an Ossuary. Sound familiar?
The concept’s not too bad, and the execution has a certain low-budget charm – a couple of Northern lads, on Triumphs, exploring the world from the perspective of cooking. They’ve done Caldo Verde, Braganca Hams, and a variety of lowbrow jokes that I am sure the critics will hammer, not to mention the roasting they’ll get from the food-hygiene brigade.
…and now they’re roasting a suckling pig at home in Cumbria, on a homemade spit over a garage inspection pit.
Let’s see how it develops – but irrespective of that, innit strange how biking is suddenly becoming trendy?
