Somehow I just made the most extraordinary hot chocolate…

…the kind that you dunk churros in, except better than that because that’s thickened with cornflour whereas this is cocoa solids.

some people might not like that statement, but they don’t know what they are missing.

approximate recipe:

about 5 or 6 pieces of hasslacher’s hot chocolate – way more than the written recipe calls for, but yes.

three cloves

into a saucepan

apply direct heat until melting starts and hint of clove aroma

splosh of milk

whisk in to emulsify the chocolate

2 heaped tsp of black, gooey muscovado sugar (hasslachers is entirely unsweetened)

add enough milk to make up to a large mug (beware you have quite a volume in there already)

keep whisking

add pinch of flaked almonds

keep whisking

bring up to / near simmer

pour into mug

ALLOW TO COOL FOR LONGER THAN YOU’D EXPECT, IT’S MASSIVELY THERMAL

avoid cloves while drinking

i think i’m going to do some work, i’m going to be awake for a while…
