personal news

well my dad’s going into hospital to get a blockage in his leg artery checked-out; details are still sketchy, facts even sketchier because getting info out of the parentals is like drawing teeth.

i am making a personal bet on mild dvt brought on as a complication of late-onset diabetes, but will know more, soon enough.

yay – seems to have been a false alarm. to quote my sister:

<<<Apparently most people have three arteries supplying blood to the feet – one on either side of the foot and the other down the middle. [The doctor] could not find the middle one on either foot, but apparently a small portion of the population don’t have this third artery anyhow, so you can’t just assume that it is blocked (particularly as both sides are the same). He took blood pressure on both arms and both feet and was happy that, after exertion, they were as they should be on all four limbs (I think it’s a problem if one is wildly different to the other three limbs). He’s happy.>>>

In short: my family have mutant feet/arteries, and this surprises people. Dad’s fine, and rather more chipper for knowing this.

I suspect that this would square with what I just found at http://www.vh.org/adult/provider/anatomy/AnatomicVariants/Cardiovascular/Text/Arteries/TibialisPosterior.html and http://www.vh.org/adult/provider/anatomy/AnatomicVariants/Cardiovascular/Images0001/0047.html – the latter has some amusing graphics, if you care to browse that sort of thing.
