We don’t get Parks and Rec in the UK that I am aware of, but an American friend introduced me to a few episodes so I am aware of the characters. One character, Ron Swanson, is a particular American archetype – and the actor who plays him, Nick Offerman, seems not too far away in reality, having his own woodshop (carpentry) and other manly pursuits.

Hence when Nick did a Reddit IAMA recently, I read the following describing his morning routine:

I awaken. I consume oxygen, then bacon, eggs and black coffee, then my wife, then bacon. I love to paddle my own canoe, and also wife. Best while staring at the leaves of the maple or sycamore.

…and I thought: I don’t care about the details and it’s entirely possibly pure hyperbole, but if everyone’s happy then that’s a magnificent sentiment for life.
