GBP 1.39 (/ltr) * 3.79 (litres per USgal) * 1.62 (USD/GBP) = $8.53/gal for Gasoline in the UK

…and, by comparison:

While the price at the pump has risen in every state vs. a year ago, in some states the price of gas has increased at a much slower rate, and many are much closer to $3.50 than to $4.00 per gallon, well below the national average price. In 10 states the average price of a gallon of gas is $3.60 or less — 18 cents less than the national average of $3.78 per gallon.

Makes you wonder where the money is going to, coming from, or both?

Perhaps this wil answer your question : http://boingboing.net/2012/10/04/man-in-a-drunken-blackout.html

Or maybe just provide further confusion about where the money moves.
