Don’t you wish Sun had as good or better Knowledge Base on its website. Apple’s KB is excellent. The search is precise. The info extremely usable and readible. Between their KB and the user forums I’ve been able to solve many problems without resorting to extremely bad behavior. But keep the faith. I’m working with the Sun Studio and Creator teams to develop the infrastructure to make FAQ/Knowledge Base entries easy to author and to publish. Meantime, look at Apple’s offerings with deep envy.

    Thanks for all the links. I’ve hated iPod since it’s debut due to it’s lack of OggVorbis support. Last week for our companies 10th Anna. they gave every employee an iPod and I’ll admit the thing is growing on me. I’m a UNIX only user, but thankfully I made sure to buy my wife a UNIX laptop (ie: PowerBook) and iTunes is awsome with the iPod. As zealotous as I am about Ogg I’ll admit that I’ve been tossing CDs in the powerbook to rip to AAC when I walk by it. The interface is just awsome.

    As for Sun’s KB… SunSolve was handy, but I don’t like the new format, you can’t tell what anything is. You’ve got to admit however that Sun’s products cover a heck of alot more ground than Apple’s do, and building a true KB that covers all the problems in simple terms without wading thru old case notes wouldn’t be easy.

    Yes and no – i like knowledgebase, but in collating the above list i was actually looking for a docuent on iPod “Note” formats, and what degree of HTML it support (answer: a bit, but plaintext is awfully close too, and with clever massaging of newlines you can do without
and
)

    In the end I had to use Google and guess at some keywords to search on (“linx”) extracted from some other tools that seek to generate Note files; Google provided the relevant URL, on the Apple website.

    I made use of the ipodnotereader pdf when building the wiPod (a wifi hotspot finder at bayareafreefi.com). it also took me a bit of time to find it at first. It would’ve been faster if I saw this… thanks.

    re: KBs

    I find Apple’s KB incredible usable. And its saved me hours of hell. We’re planning something similar but simpler for Creator and the other Sun Studio products. SunSolve is cruel to unleash on users. And its not Googleable. Bad.
