   I also get these ads when browsing various sites – and I’ve never had a Facebook account, so it’s not down to any cookie-tracking or similar.

   I suspect the ad renderer hasn’t been written smartly enough to check for screen size and scale accordingly (so yes, fuckwittage); on an iPad they’re still annoying, but small enough that they only take up space in the sidebar rather than intruding into the space occupied by the body text.
