It seems that remakes of 60’s movies…

…are now considered safe financial risks.

This is the only excuse I can think of for The Thomas Crown Affair (which started the rot) followed by The Italian Job and The Ladykillers and The Stepford Wives and The Manchurian Candidate now being joined by a remake of Alfie [trailer].

There’s Around The World In 80 Days too (but I’ll cut Jackie Chan some slack, I like him) – and Nobby and I were discussing what could be next.

I suggested Girl on a Motorcycle but was at a loss to suggest a lead actress; Nobby suggested Keira Knightley – which choice I suppose speaks volumes to some.

But… “Alfie”? Re-set in New York? I suspect the producers were watching too much Sex in the City

…and this appears to shed some light upon those very producers: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0375173/trivia

…and don’t forget Ocean’s Eleven, and the upcoming Ocean’s Twelve.

I actually kinda like the remake, but the fact that a sequel has been made just seems… slightly wrong.
