So I bought a Nexus 7

And this is me blogging on it using a bluetooth keyboard that I’ve had for some time.

Works pretty good.  It’s not perfect – the near colocation of the ‘off’ and ‘volume up’ is a pain, and the product marketing team evidently editorialised-away the Camera app since it has no rear-facing camera – fortunately the software is still there and a free app provides access so you can record videos, etc, straight to the tablet.

Overall I give it an 8/10; would be better if I could use it without tethering when out and about, and if some ergo issues (above) were fixed.

But I am a lot happier than I would be with an iPad; for some reason the Nexus makes me feel a lot more Unixy – tool based – than does the iFoo.

  1. Give it a cellular modem and a (decent) read facing camera and it would look great to me. Without them, it would be a little annoying, as I do use both these things a fair bit on the iPad. I will be interested to see what features Apple put into the smaller iPad that we are supposedly seeing next month.

It’s good that we are seeing good tablets in the Android world finally. It’s taken a couple of years, which is probably about what it did for phones, too.
