WANT ADVICE: best small PC speakers for music?

Looking to replace my old Creative Travel Sound which is currently hardwired to the Mac Mini, as seen here:

…with something more suited to cranking up the volume for Motown, rock, pop, folk and opera?

Possibly including a small woofer; footprint space is at a premium but there’s a shelf below.

  1. I still use my Cambridge SoundWorks 4.1 setup that I bought years ago in the US. The computer all plugs into the subwoofer and the four small cubes plug in to that.

  2. I’m no audiophile (and my hearing is suspect enough the subtleties would be lost anyway), but I suspect size really does matter to the physics of speakers. Particularly where you want to pump up the volume for things with some bass.

Can you not integrate it with your hi-fi equipment. It’ll both sound better, and probably switch off automatically when you take a call over Skype or similar.

    1. hifi not functioning currently and likely to live in another room soon

  3. BOUGHT: B&W MM-1

    1. Yep, that’s them.
