   Dave, the Fibonacci spiral is based on the sides of the squares used in construction being the Fibonacci numbers, so the length of each piece is the sum of the previous two length, which means the area, and thus volume increase faster than the Fibonacci series.

   PS: Not sure if that what they’ve done here, doesn’t look quite right, I think I need to make a closer inspection (possibly with a knife).
