I was driving past/through farnborough several times at the weekend, including past the new Frank Whittle[1] memorial statue – a fullsize model of the first jet aircraft, set in the midst of a roundabout next to a field.

There was a Pied Wagtail perched atop the engine intake, as if just to show us who got into the air first.

I thought it rather appropriate.
