I do use linux on laptops seriously – both my laptops run distros full time with no other partitions, and generally don’t require much time unless I go beta testing or something..

That said, drop me a line if you’re still looking at the VMDK thing. I’ve played with VMware and Ubuntu in the past together, and know what tools are out there too.
