“Ick seg adieu”

The way things stand it seems quite likely that 31 August will be my last day as a Sun Microsystems employee.

I’ll have been at Sun for 10.25 years. I circled the globe three times, crossed the Atlantic quite a bit more, met more than a few lovely and/or fascinating people, and worked on (and with) nifty technologies. All in all, it’s been good.

I’m spending the next few weeks wrapping up the administrative side of things and working out what I want to do next.

Mail works, as does Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, as well as a few flavours of IM.

Best of luck to all of you.

– Bart

  1. Why, on reading this news, do I think of rats and sinking ships?!

It would seem you may have some good friends in a similar position with whom you might find something to wile away a few hours of time, but I wish you luck with your search for permanent and gainful employment!

  2. *ugh* You’re technical excellence will be sorely missed, but hopefully not your companionship as we will keep in touch 🙂

I’m pretty sure you’ll find quickly THE job that fits your ambition and expertise.

Change is part of us, Sun didnt understood they will miss you a lot…

oh dear, so the tech side of Sun is really setting, the viz group gone, lots of the cpu people on the dole, HPC guys fleeing all directions. Guess Oracle gets the fluffy bits that cost a lot, but wont produce anything interesting.

I was on the block last year, had 6 months of vacation, before starting out again..

het ga je goed Bart, I know you will find some place, and I know we will meet again, someday

Hey Bart, it’s very sad to read this.

I’ve no doubt you’ll deal with this rapidly and will get out of it in a much better position, taking advantage of your very high skill-set.

Good luck with your new challenges quest!

Too bad that Sun let people like you go. I’m sure we will meet again somewhere. The worldwide security community is like a small family 😉

I wish you all the best. Take your time to rest and then start again.

  7. Hi Bart, thanks for keeping me up to date after Alec’s accident and best of luck with whatever the next venture brings!

    Hey Bart,

Sad to see good people leave. I sure hope our paths will keep crossing 😀
