   Huh? I’ve heard Brits called “polite,” and even “hospitable,” but “tolerant and accepting”? George Wigg comes to mind…

   I’m even more nervous – I’m currently on a ministry training placement in a CofE Church in – yep, Basingstoke!

   Not only that, the church I am attending is the local church to Queen Mary’s College and college lecturers number among the congregation! It’s outlook on the world would mean it also welcomes LGBT people to its fellowship, and quite possibly to it’s leadership!

   I am not expecting to experience ‘great wrath’ from God, but will let you know if anything exciting happens!

   The monstrous carbuncle a couple of miles South of the lovely little village of Old Basing is known as “Basingrad” to us village folk, when it’s referred to, at all. (Hint: it’s something to do with the brutalist architecture, so reminiscent of the Stalin-era Soviet Union.)

   If friendly bombs are to rain, Betjeman-style, on Basingrad, please be certain that Old Basing is not in the radius of effect.
