I just received this chummy invitation to a e-mail address that I hardly use any more, from someone I was sure I would have remembered:
Check out my Facebook profile

I set up a Facebook profile where I can post my pictures, videos and events and I want to add you as a friend so you can see it. First, you need to join Facebook! Once you join, you can also create your own profile.

..and a URL to sign me up to facebook – however I am already a member, and I understand enough to extract the “id” portion of the URL and paste it into a friends/profile link to look at the person’s account directly.
It turns out that she works (?) for a couple of companies specialising in printing / print services – not my turf – and more tellingly she’s “friended” a large number of people this afternoon, all of whose names begin with the letter “A”… like mine for instance…
Given that evidence plus the details of some groups she created, it seems to be a wet attempt at facebook viral marketing – so it’s my first Facebook splog.
I wonder how much personal data can be leaked out of Facebook just by friending someone. It’s scary at how effective it has been, getting random folks to sign up without a second thought. All you need is a stock photo of an attractive woman. Ten brownie points to whomever finds the original photo online.
“Pr0n wins again”.
