As I said to my wife last night: did you ever think you’d live to see the day when Eastern Europe was our ally, and France and Germany our enemies? It’s a rather commonplace observation these days, but in a way that makes it all the more bizarre.
…I am certain that this is slightly tongue-in-cheek, but as my colleague Dave points out, it leads to a potentially interesting storyboard:
- Second UN resolution fails to pass due to France/Germany
- US invades Iraq without UN sanction
- US gets thrown out of NATO
- Russia joins NATO
- US declares this to be “unfair”
- NATO countries declare war on US
- US invades/pre-emptively nukes Canada to prevent its being used as an invasion springboard
