Sun Opens Hardware Documentation Process

I just got IM’ed by Simon Phipps who was making a transparent attempt to plug the latest (if awkwardly titled) posting on his Sun Blog – but that’s OK, because it’s a fairly cool thing 🙂 – although I believe the actual goal is best described on the relevant Sun Wiki page:

Purpose:
The goal of this page is to provide an open and transparent avenue for individuals to track requests made to Sun Microsystems for open hardware documentation.

…and it goes on to describe the process, and how the requests will be trackable in public. It’s not a guarantee that documentation for absolutely every piece of hardware will be publishable – and Simon goes on to explain precisely why, at some length – but the process will be pleasantly transparent there should not be any more mere docu-fud preventing sharing of information.

  1. Spam? Moi?

Actually, I was trying to provoke the filling in of the “implementations” column of the table. James McPherson has boldly and generously made the first contribution.
