Cathy Seipp – a blogger and writer – is gravely ill in hospital and will soon die of complications of cancer; she may have died overnight.
Yet when I was seeking for an update I found some twit has registered cathyseipp dot com – I’m not hyperlinking to it, type it into the browser bar if you want to go see, or (possibly more wise) check out / link to the screengrabs I’ve posted on Flickr – they have put up in an attempt to googlebomb her site when the inevitable traffic burst hits today, and to insult her and her family.
Using the Flickr pages will deny them – the pages, the page authors – the oxygen of Google PageRank. They don’t deserve it.
I don’t know a great deal about Cathy, but she’s dear to several friends of mine; and although I may be an athiest – in fact maybe moreso because I’m an athiest – I believe death is something that should not be mocked or exploited. This sucks.
People are precious. You are the only you the world will ever get, ever. That’s important.
So don’t make fun or capital of someone’s death. Whoever they are. Just don’t.
Pillocks.
