Skype On Solaris – Progress!

The Linux (static libqt build) of Skype 1.2.0.18 runs under BrandZ on OpenSolaris nicely. A previous attempt at running the current Linux build of 1.3.0.53 failed due to a missing libasound in the Centos 3.7 install I have. I had assume that this was a non starter since BrandZ only emulates OSS not ALSA. I planned to build a libasound.so fake library that would fail at the appropriate point so that Skypes’ audio code would fall back to OSS.

Building the latest (1.0.13) libasound from alsa-project.org and installing it turned out to be sufficient to make Skype 1.3.0.53 happy. No fake filter library was necessary.
