Geek-a-Cycle Defattens the Bloggers

Oddly I was having a conversation about exactly this sort of thing with Bullen when we went to the London Cycle Show last weekend…

He wants something in “gaming” spec, though.

Sitting in front of a computer drinking cola and blogging all day doesn’t provide that nice of a figure-I should know. If you ever wanted to look like a complete fool at the computer, but still maintain a girlish figure-the Geek-a-Cycle will get you taken care of. This is a desk with an attached stationary bike, simple enough. It will set you back $350. Want to use the computer without the bike? Too bad! Must cycle!

Aargh – one of my linguistic pet peeves. “that nice of a figure”… where the hell does the “of” come from? I hear it a lot here in the US, and it really grates.

I’ve always imagined that this usage, along with things like “in back of”, arose from a word-for-word translation of a non-English phrase into English by immigrants into the US. However it’s (depressingly) likely that some enthusiastic owner of an OED will leap up to demonstrate that it’s an old English usage that was carried to America before falling out of favour in the UK…..

If you’d been reading my blog you would have seen the Geek-a-Cycle on September 30th!

Hi Mike – I read your blog via RSS, so I may have missed it. RSS readers are condensed, but I suspect they reduce the tendency to linger over pages…

It’s interesting, I saw a similar device that was a treadmil hooked to your workstation. I think I would prefer that. Now, as for strapping your laptop to your motorcycle… I’m not too sure about that! 🙂
