What I find even more astounding is that the Crab Nebula – big, pretty and famous – has only been there since a comparable supernova in 1054. When I was interested in astronomy as a youngster, I naturally assumed it was as old as the stars.
As it were.

Do you measure from date of birth, date of death, or age at death?
