   Your calculations are not correct, 30 US miles per gallon is 7.84 l/100km, verify with “units” (the GNU one, the solaris version is not as good)

   I’ll look into it; the figures were generated by a perl script where I used British Gallons as a base:

   $brmpg *= 5;

   $usmpg = $brmpg * 1.2009524;

   $kml = $brmpg * 0.35400547;

   $miles_for_100km = 62.137119;

   $gallons_for_100km = $miles_for_100km / $brmpg;

   $l100km = $gallons_for_100km * 4.5460993;

   printf “%.1f ! %.1f ! %.1f ! %.1f\n”, $brmpg, $usmpg, $kml, $l100km; }

   …maybe there’s a typo or other goof.

   100km is 62 miles nearasdammit, so I fed that into the algorithm and got:

   62.00 ! 74.46 ! 21.95 ! 4.56

   …so if I do 62 UK-MPG I will consume 1 gallon for 100km.

   1 Gallon = 4.5n litres, so that’s 4.5 litres / 100km, which matches the 4.56 it calculated.

   What figure do you make that out to be?

   You wrote that $usmpg = $brmpg * 1.2009524;

   US Gallons are smaller than Imperial Gallons. You should divide, not multiply here.
