Those were good times. We had faith in humanity, and optimism. We believed in the natural state of democracy. It’s sad we were so collectively naive. Antoine de Gunzbourg’s post is sobering reading and we should hold ourselves to account:

For those who don’t want to or cannot face the clickwall, an extract:

1) So, it was not “Foreign Interference” this time. The 1st time Trump was elected we discovered the problem of “disinformation”. (It was called “fake news” at the time). This evolved into platform regulation and Foreign Interference. However, this turned our focus away from the fact that fascists can win elections all by themselves.

2) “FIMI”, now it is time to drop the notion. And with it, the focus on “Russian Interference”. We are about to face an incredible wave of crazy conspiracy, hallucinated Qanon, fear, paranoia, millenarist cultic lunatics and apocalyptic moods. This will come from the US (The West), supported and endorsed by the US president and promoted heavily by Elon Musk on twitter, on his cars and on his rockets (yes, Musk has rockets). “Russian Interference” or “FIMI” (the other term we use for “Russian Interference”) are NOT the problem for the next four years.

3) This looks to us like Trump winning a new election and coming back into power. To them (and to him), it is one whole sequence. He never lost, his victory stolen, democrats illegally occupied the white house for four years and his reign was interrupted. We thought it was only an accident, and democracy was the natural way of things. They think it was a war, and they had just lost a battle. This is why they won. We just stopped fighting, they did not.
