I’m … shocked. No-one in the private sector would ever have considered protection of data in transit. It’s this sort of foresightedness which amply demonstrates how private sector companies can never hope to compete with the expertise of the likes of NSA, CESG, DSD, etc, in protecting critical infrastructure.

Chris Rock has a marvellous sketch the gist of which is that you should not obtain credit / brownie points for doing things which you ought to be doing anyway. This is onesuch.
Also: a lot of cybershit arguments seem to be based around the hypothesis that the spook agencies have access to (and understanding of) significant amounts of security magic that is beyond the comprehension of the private sector. Said hypothesis is also bullshit.
I’m wondering what “(31000,88)” is about. Are they – gasp – leaking information?
You are assuming it isn’t there to comply with some random pile of boilerplate internal regulation that encryption must be confirmed. Thats one are where government still leads most corporations 8)
