On 10 February 2004, Microsoft released a new “Critical Update” with the following description:SUMMARY: A critical update is available to remove unacceptable symbols from the Bookshelf Symbol 7 font that is included with Microsoft Office 2003. The Bookshelf Symbol 7 font is contained in the Bssym7.ttf file.
I was very curious as to what was meant by “unacceptable” symbols. So I made a backup copy of the old font and installed the new one. Then I did screen captures of both versions in WordPad to see what was changed….
My, cultural sensitivities can be so interesting, and as a person who takes “critical updates” seriously… well, go take a look…
