Announcement: New Blog at Computer World UK!

At the suggestion of Simon Phipps, with the connivance of Mike Simons, and having shamelessly stolen stylistic cues from Glyn Moody, I’ve now joined the ranks of bloggers at CWUK.

My goal is to write approximately 1.5x per week (you can do the math) and stuck to my wall I have pasted the following remit:

  1. Clarify the complexity of security, relevant to a current story.
  2. Outline and correct hearsay, ritual and sloppy security thinking – especially stuff that may influence strategy and architecture, again relevant to current stories.
  3. Deflate balloons. Be constructively contrarian.
  4. Find new stories. Link to / occasionally review useful resources, websites and blogs that deserve wider readership.

Those who remember security-interest@sun.com will know what to expect. 🙂

The blog is Unscrewing Security, and a RSS/ATOM feed is also available.

  1. congrats, looking forward to your essays and stories. would like book reviews too, eg. second ed. (the student version :-P) practical cryptography etc.

  2. Thanks, Ozan; that’s a good idea, I’ll chew it over. I need to read more, anyhow.

It’s been a bit wild since I don’t have direct access to the CWUK blogsite yet so everything’s a bit third-hand – I’m only just getting to grips with what the CWUK CSS templates do to article formatting, and anyway it’s taken about 10 days to set the blog up so my extant postings are a bit dated.

It’ll improve over the next few weeks…

  3. Hey – nice work 🙂 Congratulations!

Ah, Sun. How I miss you.

    Lisa.

Excellent. Looks good so far, though I don’t follow all of the security talk.

I assume you won’t be posting all of the future articles here as well, so it will be worthwhile subscribing to the direct feed? On that note, I see that it is one of those horrible summary feeds with a tiny dribble of the article, but I assume you have no control over that.

    1. Am still thinking that over; I will certainly post summaries here, and may post longer pieces, edits, crops etc too. I’ll ask about the feeds but the MovableType installation is so hacked that I suspect \configuring RSS feeds is beyond their control…

  5. Happy new gig, squire; I’ve added your new blog to my NetNewsWire, in case you stop the mirroring after this announcement :-).

At some point likely-to-be-soon, [several things].labelledsecurity.co.uk will be going live, at which point I’ll be blogging again; and not just about security, either…

You should have been on R4 this morning with Humphreys and May. Nice article, and brings to mind my favourite Tron quote: [David Warner] “Bring the logic probe!”
