trackback and blogging

if anyone reading this really, really understands trackback and it’s application in blogging, i’d be grateful if they could please drop me a line.

i think i have got the general gist of it – some means, supported by the blog software, of annotating the fact that someone is referencing your articles…

…but i would appreciate an external perspective and maybe a pointer to somewhere that this is actually taking place, so i can dig into the URLs and see what they look like, and how these cross-references are maintained.

thanks everso.

http://www.cruftbox.com/cruft/docs/trackback.html seems to be a pretty good explanation, but i would still like to know if this stuff reallt gets used to any great extent…

The “A-list” bloggers seem to use it quite often. It shifts the discussion from the poster’s blog to the commenter’s blog, so it serves as a promotion tool as well.
