If the Muffett is needed in the next day or so…

…then you may or may not be able to reach me; my Dad has fallen at home and broken his hip joint. He’s comfortable as you can be in this condition, reportedly singing Flanders and Swann songs with my sister Mandy who ferried him into hospital.

The oddity is that whist I was in hospital last year after the bike accident my Great Aunt Betty was likewise in hospital, with a broken hip much like my father’s. Betty went to Royal Worcester Hospital and it is suspected by us that it was there she acquired the bug Clostridium difficile (aka C.diff) which nearly killed her in several hideous ways.

On that basis my sister has firmly ordered the Royal Worcester not to operate, and will be making him comfy overnight before attempting to ship him to the Priory (where I recuperated from France), or (amusingly) to the local BUPA hospital in Droitwich where the same surgeon from the Priory also works.

If he gets into the latter he will be being operated upon mere metres from home. That would be very good indeed.

Anyone who knows my dad can leave best-wises as comments, I’ll print and forward.

Here we go again. Thanks all. 🙂

Eek – and just after I’d asked you how the family was! 🙁

Please pass on our best regards and get well wishes to your Dad please!

Best wishes and get well from us too!

Perhaps once he’s well into the recovery stage I could send our Chris up and they could duet Flanders and Swan together – our 9 year old is a huge fan (of F&S and of the good Dr Muffett)!

    A+M-

Wish him well from Steve and me.

Nag, nag, nag,,,, The squeaky wheel will get oil. That’s the best advice we’ve had. Also, the genral feedback is that for emergency care, the NHS is better set-up than private. A ‘teaching’ hospital is also often better as well. A hospice/care home might be better for post-op care depending on his needs and the staff/patient ratio.

Latest is he’s having the operation at Worcester hopefully tomorrow (Saturday) and then when he’s fit enough to move he’s going to The Nuffield Hospital in Birmingham for physiotherapy and TLC.

I’m usually likened to a broken record so I quite like being a squeaky wheel! Will keep on squeaking!

Hmm.. No more updates since Friday.

How’s your Dad getting on, Alec? I hope the operation went well.

    update

Dad had the hip pinned (a “dynamic pin”, some sort of cantilevered thing?) on saturday; apparently he was a bit woozy from general anaesthetic, but I saw him sunday evennig and he was pretty much back to normal, albeit it’s painful when he’s rooled over to change sheets, etc – but what else do you expect.

Generally it looks good, and I now have to raid the pigybank for seven grand to pay for private aftercare up front, assuming he moves to the Nuffield in Birmingham later today.

    Should be home in 7 – 10 days. 🙂
