  • Japanese cubesat to flash Earth with Morse message • The Register

    2012/10/12 19:20:23 BST

Scan the night sky next month and you may witness a rather unusual phenomenon – an tiny Japanese satellite using LEDs to beam a Morse code message earthwards. The message will come from FITSAT-1, or Niwaka, a 10cm cubed satellite weighing just 1.3kg and recently released from the from the International Space Station. Built by

  • Can’t re-add Twitter to my LinkedIn profile without giving LinkedIn privileges to read/write #notgonnahappen

    2012/10/12 12:58:12 BST

I suppose that I shouldn’t be surprised by this, but it is a bit miffing; mildly ironic given the block that Twitter has put upon communications with LinkedIn.

  • FreedomBuddy – Gitorious # this looks splendid in a bunch of ways.

    2012/10/12 12:52:08 BST

FreedomBuddy FreedomBuddy is a location-ignorant location tool. It allows friends to communicate and provide services to one another directly, without relying on any third parties, despite constant motion through both IP- and meat-spaces, over any network, including hostile and censorious ones. via FreedomBuddy – Gitorious.

  • The Internet is an Oral Tradition, and Harvey Weinstein does not understand poetry

    2012/10/12 11:55:39 BST

US film producer Harvey Weinstein has criticised media giants Apple and Google for making content available under the guise of “free internet”. “It’s a nonsensical idea,” he told an audience at the London Film Festival, likening the notion to helping oneself to “free shirts” in a clothing store. There’s that thing again, confusing the virtual

  • In case you’ve ever needed an onomatopoeia / sound for Blocking someone on #Twitter, one exists:

    2012/10/12 10:53:43 BST

*plonk* Plonk is a Usenet jargon term for adding a particular poster to one’s kill file such that the poster’s future postings are completely ignored. It was first used in 1989, and by 1994 was a commonly used term on Usenet regarding kill file additions. The word is an example of onomatopoeia, intended to humorously

    2012/10/12 10:43:29 BST

My Polish is not up to this; I had a LinkedIn request from “eForensics Editor” …which appears to be related to this organisation: …which in association with some googling makes me think they are related to Hakin9. Presumably this is their modus operandi; get virally added to peoples’ LinkedIn accounts and then spam their contacts

  • Dropping #TwitterTools from WordPress for a while

    2012/10/12 10:21:33 BST

Moving to manual retweets for macroblogging, it seems that TwitterTools is in a state of flux due to a new update – plus it is now trying to carve itself into the data flow by replacing bitly with itself – and I’d like to see where it lands.
