Our toddler has a priority interrupt and it’s hilarious
All you need to do is start singing “Heads, Shoulders, Knees, & Toes” and she’ll immediately stop whatever she’s doing and join in with the dance moves and singing. Getting dressed, preparing for bed, watching TV, demanding snacks… It’s the little things that count.

Without comment: A scientist from the country where you can find tea being made with lukewarm water from the tap claims to have found the recipe for a perfect cuppa. https://www.theguardian.com/food/2024/jan/24/perfect-cup-of-tea-needs-a-pinch-of-salt-and-squeeze-of-lemon-says-us-chemist

British man appears in Spanish court over [PRIVATE JOKE] plane-bomb hoax | BBC News | … if you are using SnapChat then your text-chat messages are NOT encrypted and are actively surveilled
So: a chess nerd used SnapChat* group chat to joke amongst friends re: being a “Taliban Bomber” on a flight he was taking. The tip-off, military intercept & arrest is being falsely attributed to “Gatwick’s Wi-Fi network” (HTTPS obscures data in transit) — it’s obviously a consequence of Snap’s reporting/partnering with law enforcement to prevent…

Joint Briefing on the Investigatory Powers (Amendment) Bill | A BORING TITLE FOR A TERRIFYING BLOG POST …
…that details the UK Government’s plans to armtwist software providers into not fixing security bugs, plus obligate changes to enable surveillance. The current state of affairs is that the amendment: (quote:) READ THIS AND TELL OTHER PEOPLE https://www.openrightsgroup.org/publications/joint-briefing-on-the-investigatory-powers-amendment-bill/

Hippy, capitalist, guru, grocer: the forgotten genius who changed British food | …I was vaguely aware of Nicholas Saunders but had no idea of the extent of his impact on British food – and where we are now
An excellent little reader on one person and how they influenced foodie Britain, bootstrapping both Neal’s Yard and Borough Market and many of the retailers which got their start there: Malcolm Veigas, an assistant director with Bolton Council, once gave an interview to the BBC’s Food Programme in which he cited Borough as the lightbulb…

BREAKING: food bloggers are adding nightshade and other poisons to online recipe pages to defeat “cooked.wiki” and other advert/revenue-stripping robots
The poisons are being added to recipe ingredients in very small, white-on-white fonts that are invisible to the human eye but which are picked-up by recipe-scraping robots which include them in the resulting output, putting users at risk of killing themselves and their loved ones. This is, of course, satire; but it’s really weird to…

Retired teacher’s pension stopped as provider refuses to believe she is not dead | The Guardian
It seems that in the wake of the post office scandal people are finally starting to write “tech needs to do the right thing” stories again: https://www.theguardian.com/money/2024/jan/20/retired-teachers-pension-stopped-as-provider-refuses-to-believe-she-is-not-dead

Thought-provoking to see so many Americans suddenly interested in Cricket because of the “new” Bluey episode drop on Disney+
I grew up a Worcestershire supporter: regular visits to New Road, a ground so frequently flooded by the River Severn that we’d joke about players being savaged by fish. My first real education in anti-racism / anti-apartheid activism through the team’s longstanding membership by Basil D’Olivera (“…what do you mean he wasn’t allowed to play?…
