• 22 April 1968

Today has been my 38th birthday. I bought a circular saw from B&Q. I will use it to help make a 100 megapixel digital camera. I also bought some solar-powered lamps. Apparently they will work in the dark.

  • MP3 facts I didn’t know.

[en.wikipedia.org] An article in Business 2.0 magazine revealed that “Tom’s Diner” was also used by Karlheinz Brandenburg to develop the audio compression scheme known as MP3 at what is now the Fraunhofer Society. He recalled: I was ready to fine-tune my compression algorithm…somewhere down the corridor, a radio was playing “Tom’s Diner”. I was electrified.…

  • Listen to ThePartyParty

Well it’s no Grey Album, but ThePartyParty is one of the best, funniest, and most disturbing albums I’ve ever heard. It’s an electronica/hip-hop mashup that sounds like it was partly soundtracked on a Nintendo, ripping lyrics and influences from Led Zep, The Who, Grandmaster Flash, Lennon, Eminem, U2 and a bunch of others, rewriting them…

  • License Plates for Cycles ?

I just heard Alan Howarth [en.wikipedia.org] on Radio4’s “Today In Parliament” ranting about the dangers of cyclists running red lights and saying he wants to propose all cycles to have license plates a-la cars and motorcycles (“and you don’t hear anyone complaing about that!”) to bring a degree of accountability to the urban cyclists who…

  • Oven gloves are off as Bourdain attacks British chefs

[news.independent.co.uk] Oven gloves are off as Bourdain attacks British chefs Nigella Lawson is not a real chef, Jamie Oliver fulfils the role of a non-threatening rock star and Rick Stein has the appeal of a homely dad to grown-ups moping about lonely city apartments. Courtesy of Tom, and of Make, a www.makezine.com/blog/archive/2006/04/wood_motorcycle.html: …see also [ratbike.org] ; I’m not sure about the joints used to box around the front of the engine – I would be inclined to reinforce those with noggins or some steel angle.

  • This Is Not A Joke

The National Public Toilet Map is part of the Australian government’s National Continence Management Strategy (NCMS). The map allows more Australians with urinary and fecal incontinence problems to live and participate in their communities with dignity and confidence, by making it easier for them to find information about the location of public toilets. I just…

  • Blown away: windsurfer takes a 140-mile detour

[news.independent.co.uk] When hobby windsurfer Adam Cowles trudged ashore after a stint on the waves he was in need of a stiff drink – and not just because he had spent three hours riding the waves. After consulting a couple on the beach Mr Cowles, 24, realised that he had taken a wrong turn and having…

  • Top 10 bendy roads in Britain

Bendiest roads in the UK revealed Britain’s bendiest roads – where drivers can face the same gravitational forces as on a rollercoaster or race track – have been named. Most are minor country roads in hilly areas, although in sixth place was the A157 in Lincolnshire – a county generally thought of as flat. A…

  • Greetings from the Hartley Wintney Union of Fascists

I like my village. With an ancient cricket green, its selection of amenities, its thirty-odd antique shops, and a host of elderly folk waiting to die, it is the very thesis of Little England. This evening at the sound of my letterbox’s rattle I ran to the bedroom window to observe a tall, cleancut, leather-jacket-clad…
