Hippy, capitalist, guru, grocer: the forgotten genius who changed British food | …I was vaguely aware of Nicholas Saunders but had no idea of the extent of his impact on British food – and where we are now
An excellent little reader on one person and how they influenced foodie Britain, bootstrapping both Neal’s Yard and Borough Market and many of the retailers which got their start there: Malcolm Veigas, an assistant director with Bolton Council, once gave an interview to the BBC’s Food Programme in which he cited Borough as the lightbulb…

BREAKING: food bloggers are adding nightshade and other poisons to online recipe pages to defeat “cooked.wiki” and other advert/revenue-stripping robots
The poisons are being added to recipe ingredients in very small, white-on-white fonts that are invisible to the human eye but which are picked-up by recipe-scraping robots which include them in the resulting output, putting users at risk of killing themselves and their loved ones. This is, of course, satire; but it’s really weird to…

Retired teacher’s pension stopped as provider refuses to believe she is not dead | The Guardian

Thought-provoking to see so many Americans suddenly interested in Cricket because of the “new” Bluey episode drop on Disney+

“Daddy Makes Pizza Night” is getting better
I’m still a rank amateur, but the quality is improving. I am still nowhere near making decent circular pizzas, though; the dough has a lot of gluten and it’s easier to pull square even if I am dropping it onto hot round ceramic pizza stones.

A new variation on the Scunthorpe problem: a cable company which will not accept the surname “Cable”
Welp, that’s a first. Xfinity won’t let me pay them for Internet service, because my … last name is “not valid.” https://kolektiva.social/@ELLIOTTCABLE/111773847035950535

The UK’s political class needs to learn to love the economy it actually has | …excellent article
The UK’s lack of pride or interest in its video games industry is part and parcel of a tendency that Sunak often complains about: that the country is not just bad at maths, but proud of it. But it also reflects a problem that his own party is part of: a political class that for…
