Is #SoftwareWydawnictwo related to #Hakin9 ? #leeches and #parasites, oh my!

My Polish is not up to this; I had a LinkedIn request from “eForensics Editor”

…which appears to be related to this organisation:

…which in association with some googling makes me think they are related to Hakin9.

Presumably this is their modus operandi; get virally added to peoples’ LinkedIn accounts and then spam their contacts looking for more contributors?

I have this theory because a few days ago I received this e-mail:

Dear Mr Alec Muffett,

my name is Katarzyna Bilska, I am an editor at eForensics Magazine. Currently, we are preparing a new issue about tools and techniques used in securing data destruction. I would like to ask you if you would be interested in writing an article about this subject?

I have become acquainted with your article and thus I think that you could make a valuable contribution to our magazine.

I’m looking forward to your reply.

Best regards,
Katarzyna Bilska

…and a few days after that I received this e-mail:

Hello Alec,

My name is Aleksandra Raszczuk and I am writing from e-forensics magazine.

At the moment we are preparing an article about Flash Data Recovery Tools & Techniques, for one of our on-line magazines (www.eforensicsmag.com). We would like to offer you a unique way to self-promotion and show the whole world your knowledge on this topic in your own article.

If you decide to write it for us, we will give you a free access to the magazine with your article and free publicity for your business.

If you decide to stay longer with us and write more texts, we can offer you another unique offer for our authors.

Looking forward for your reply,

Even if you would not be interested in cooperation,

Sincerely,

Aleksandra Raszczuk

So I’d say that they are trying really hard to inveigle themselves into my world, my contacts, my time.

My first though was “well, it might be a nice little diversion for Adam Gowdiak, if he fancies taking a breather from breaking Java’s security implementation at some point”.

(Aside: Good on Adam, if he likes running his own business; it’s ironic that he’s now on the outside sending vulnerabilities in, though, given where he was placed when I met him…)
