  1. It would need to be much larger to keep the proportions of obstacle to vehicle I reckon..

    That’s ridiculous. A motorway would never look like that if treated like a cycle lane.

    If it started with a level crossing and then the train tracks ran parallel to the motorway and the trains were allowed to wander into the carriage way, then there would be some sort of similarity.
    You’d probably need some random motorway stop signs every few miles and maybe a “get out and push” section as well.

  3. The motorway could really do with ceasing to exist for a short while before restarting.

    The first articulated lorry would have that bin on the hard shoulder, without even slowing down.

    For similar effect, the slow lane would need to have one of those “maxi-bollards which serve a double function as large flowerpots” in the middle, instead. I’ve seen a crash test of one of these versus an artic’, and it was spectacular…
