the new “hitch-hiker’s”

Well everyone’s got an opinion, and so have I, and to save everyone, someone, no-one, anyone asking, I’ll share it here…

I’ve only heard the first episode so far – I could have heard the second tonight, but life gets in the way – and I like it; I am not adoring, but it shows great promise.

William Franklyn as “The Book” is a pretty good choice, but the first episode he was used in a too-much narrative style that did not square well with the first two series – either he was being the book, or he was providing third-party narration, and the latter grates. This is where the hand of Dirk Maggs seems most evident, because Adams’ technique seems more to provide only context, and let the actors tell the story.

Still, it’s good, and I am willing to allow an episode or two to shift style to account for the 25 year gap between series 2 and 3; the soundscape is stupendous, and they’ve evidently gone to town on the audio jokes – most especially Zaphod speaking over himself.

Lets see how it shapes up.
