There is something about Costa Coffee that I don’t like. Compared to Caffe Nero, their coffee is inferior, the ambience is worse their furniture less comfortable, but their prices are higher. (Starbucks has inferior coffee to Nero too in my opinion, but they are very good in terms of comfort and other amenities and okay on price). I think it may be that they are a franchise business with inferior quality control. In any event, I see them as a relatively downmarket brand who don’t realise they are a downmarket brand, which is a relatively dangerous thing to be. (On the other hand the “We shouldn’t have to face competition from chains because chains are evil” brigade deserve whatever they get).
