Prime Minister to address BT, T-Mobile, Vodafone re: preventing hate speech, fraud…

Prime Minister David Cameron has again waded into the debate about protecting kids from pornography online by personally stepping up pressure on ISPs to block smut websites by default.

His intervention comes during a torrid time for the Tories, with the party suffering heavy loses in local elections across the UK today.

One the one hand, “freedom from censorship”; on the other, “protection of children”. From a technical perspective, this is pure doublethink.

Also, all that will happen (other than some ISP staff being paid to maintain black and / or whitelists forever, with updates increasingly lagging behind reality) is that the definition of “objectionable” will change.

    1. I’ll take freedom from children, please.

Mr Pickles puts it rather well (and very succinctly), in the Reg article. Hopefully, certain bodies he and I are involved with will be listened to, and relevant politicians will stop advocating technically impossible initiatives…
